The Voluntary Standard for Ethical Public Service

Public office is a public trust. By signing this pledge, I affirm that public service is a responsibility entrusted to me by the people. I recognize that elected office exists to serve the public—not personal ambition, political parties, special interests, or financial gain. I voluntarily commit myself to the following principles and invite the public and my fellow signatories to hold me accountable to them.

1. Service Before Self
I pledge that my first responsibility is to the people I serve. I will place the public interest above my personal interests, political ambitions, financial gain, or public recognition.

2. The People Before Politics
I pledge to represent every constituent equally, regardless of political affiliation, race, religion, sex, gender, income, geography, or whether they voted for me. My office belongs to every person I am entrusted to serve.

3. Evidence Before Opinion
I pledge to seek evidence, consult qualified experts, and evaluate credible research before making public statements or policy decisions. I will strive to ensure that my positions are informed by facts rather than assumptions, and I will remain willing to revise my views when new evidence justifies doing so.

4. Truth Before Misinformation
I pledge to verify information before sharing it, distinguish facts from opinions, acknowledge uncertainty when evidence is incomplete, and publicly correct errors when I discover that I have been mistaken.

5. Transparency and Accountability
I pledge to communicate honestly with the public, explain the reasoning behind my decisions whenever reasonably possible, disclose conflicts of interest, admit mistakes, and remain accountable for my actions.

6. Listen Before Deciding
I pledge to actively seek the perspectives of those I represent through open dialogue, meaningful engagement, and accessible opportunities for public participation. Listening to constituents is not an event, it is a continuing responsibility.

7. Integrity Over Influence
I pledge that my duty to the people I serve shall never be outweighed by any political party, donor, political action committee, corporation, lobbyist, special interest, or personal relationship. Every decision shall be guided by the public interest.

8. Professional Conduct
I pledge to conduct myself with civility, respect, humility, and professionalism. While disagreement is an essential part of democracy, personal attacks, intimidation, and deliberate division have no place in honorable public service.

9. Stewardship of the Public Trust
I pledge to protect taxpayer resources, oppose corruption in all forms, avoid conflicts of interest, and exercise the authority entrusted to me responsibly, ethically, and with fiscal prudence.

10. Constitutional Government
I pledge to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, respect the rule of law, preserve the separation of powers, and protect the equal rights and liberties guaranteed to every person under the law.

11. Humility and Continuous Learning
I recognize that no public servant possesses all the answers. I pledge to remain intellectually humble, seek knowledge, welcome constructive criticism, learn from mistakes, and place truth above pride.

12. Mutual Accountability
I recognize that this pledge has value only if it is upheld. I therefore willingly submit myself to the standards contained herein and invite public scrutiny of my conduct. I further pledge to hold fellow signatories to these same principles, regardless of political party, ideology, position, or personal relationship. Should I fail to uphold these commitments, I accept that my endorsement of this pledge may be publicly revoked through a fair, transparent, and evidence-based process established by its governing body. Accountability begins with those who willingly ask for the public's trust.

13. Independent Stewardship
I pledge to support an independent, nonpartisan stewardship body whose sole purpose is to preserve the integrity of this Public Service Pledge. This body shall evaluate alleged violations using a fair, transparent, evidence-based process that affords every signatory due process, an opportunity to respond, and the equal application of these standards regardless of office, political affiliation, ideology, or public influence.

I acknowledge that no individual is above accountability. Should credible evidence demonstrate that I have knowingly committed a material violation of the principles of this pledge, I accept that my recognition as a signatory may be suspended or revoked following that process. Likewise, I affirm that this standard shall be applied equally to every signatory, without favoritism or prejudice.

The purpose of this stewardship is not to judge political beliefs or policy positions, but to safeguard the principles of integrity, truthfulness, accountability, professionalism, and public service that unite all who voluntarily sign this pledge.

Affirmation
I sign this pledge voluntarily, recognizing that public trust is not granted by election alone, but earned through conduct. I accept these principles not merely as aspirations, but as standards by which I invite the public to judge my service.

In accepting this pledge, I recognize that my duty is not to power, party, or personal gain, but to the people and to the principles of constitutional government. I will strive to serve with integrity, humility, courage, and respect for every person whose trust has been placed in me.
